New for gas-heated homes
Dual fuel: a heat pump with your furnace as backup
Until October 15 a gas-heated home in Vernon had no standard heat pump rebate. FortisBC now pays up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 for income-qualified households, when a heat pump and a new high-efficiency furnace replace a gas furnace that’s at least 15 years old. The heat pump carries most of the season and the furnace takes over at 2 °C or colder, the switch-over FortisBC sets for the Southern Interior.
To qualify
- Your current gas furnace is at least 15 years old
- Ducted heat pump plus a 95% furnace and a connected thermostat
- Sized with a program-approved heat load calculation
- Installed on or after October 15, 2026 by an HPCN-listed contractor
Why the installer matters
Rebates are won or lost on install day
FortisBC only pays dual fuel rebates when the contractor is on the Home Performance Contractor Network at the time of the install. Coldstream Mechanical is registered and our team has HRAI training.

Rebate questions from Vernon homeowners
Rebate programs change during the year. Confirm the current amount on the program’s website before you buy.
Does a gas-heated home in Vernon qualify for a heat pump rebate?
Yes, since October 15, 2026, if the furnace is at least 15 years old. FortisBC’s dual fuel rebate pays up to $4,000 for a heat pump plus a new high-efficiency furnace, or up to $8,000 for income-qualified households. Households under the CleanBC income limits can look at the Energy Savings Program instead, which pays up to $13,000.
Is Coldstream Mechanical a registered rebate contractor?
Yes. We’re registered with the Home Performance Contractor Network, which FortisBC requires for its dual fuel rebates. Our team is HRAI certified in heat loss and gain calculations.
Is there a rebate for central air conditioning in BC?
Not for an air conditioner that only cools. CleanBC and FortisBC rebates cover heat pumps, which cool in summer and heat in winter. See our air conditioning services.
Can I combine rebates?
Sometimes. A second CleanBC upgrade can add up to $2,000, and FortisBC’s switch-to-gas rebates grow when a water heater goes in at the same time. The FortisBC dual fuel rebates are the exception: they can’t be combined with any other FortisBC, provincial or federal rebate.
Does Coldstream Mechanical apply for the rebate for me?
You apply to each program directly once the work is paid. For dual fuel we send the commissioning data and photos on install day, and our invoice carries the details every program asks for.
How long do I have to apply?
Six months for CleanBC and FortisBC dual fuel rebates. 90 days for FortisBC switch-to-gas rebates and 60 days for servicing rebates. Each is counted from the invoice date.
